This looks like so much fun. My main concern was always the size of the board and how it might just become a static scrum in the middle after turn one, but I’ve been really impressed by how the objective system encourages / requires a lot more manoeuvring and thought than I’d been expecting. I am ready.

I would love to see some TBT on the various old B5 games; I reconnected with it last year after a friend got a tat of a Starfury. I am slowly working on a fan supplement for Rangers of Shadowdeep to allow me to play a GM-less RPG set in that universe; I don’t think a mass combat ground game would really work for me. Looking forward to the next hangout already!

Is there something in Spearhead that allows a unit to contest two objectives? In the past a single unit could only count as contesting a single objective and if you were contesting two you'd have to pick. Thanks so much for the batrep, looking forward to the rest of the week!

The different factions being properly balanced against each other is the most important thing for the longevity of the game. The Combat Patrol boxes are by far not balanced against each other, and this causes loss of interest even in beginner players when they learn that they will never win because they chose poorly.

Why not charge with those Prosecutors into the Killbow in round 3? The objective they were on is sticky so you would hold it and you could not only take the objective from the Killbow but also have a shot at killing it and prevent its shooting next turn.

It's a Gryph crow because a normal gryphon is a mix of a lion and an eagle, the gryph crow is a mix of a lion and a crow. I believe the difference in the design is the beak is more elongated like a crow rather than the short sharp beak of an eagle and the feathers are shorter and sharper like a crows unlike the more rounded and longer feathers of an eagle. but yeah the design is not quite clear.

Um, actually, Ash, the guy on the Griff Stalker is a Lord Vigilant, which is different from the guy on foot- who is the Lord Veritant. And they're both different from the the Vexillor, Venator, Vigilants, Vanquishers, or Vendictors. Seriously, I don't see where the confusion stems from.

I saw a video probably 18 months ago that the creator was complaining about his LGS giving him dirty looks, while he was playing his 3d printed army, wahapedia rules, and brought his own drinks and snacks. The problem with him and other "hardcore 3d printers" is they want these experiences for free, or as near free as they can possibly get. Which is not the way the world works. The other problem is this means they have cheap printers and their armies look like absolute shit.

KRULEBOYZ my precious!!!! As an objective balanced observered we NEED the Sigmarines to sleep at the bottom of the swamp. So nice to se the Krule Boyz back in action :) Nice small game format, playbale for a new player out of box and after work without major prep.

Is anyone else getting a second or two gap between the sound and visuals? I hear the dice roles and then see the dice roll. The into chat is in sync, but not the game. (This was the case for the first Spearhead video as well?)

Hearing about that the painted armies in the book are staff armies really piqued my interest. Your observation that these would be adults with their full time jobs unrelated to painting these minis finding the time to do that and playtesting Spearhead feels so good to hear.

Combat Patrol got me excited about getting into 40K last year, and I have since switched to Grimdark Future Firefight. This sounds like a great development of that idea! I'm really curious about the potential "ultimate starter set" version of the launch box.

Correction, the combat patrol missions are available for free download. They came out about a week after the combat patrol sheets.

As someone who's enjoyed Combat Patrol, this might actually get me into AOS. Interested to see if its easy to get into without buying skaventide as my son and I would prefer different armies. Let's see what GW puts out.

Are there rules for Ironjawz in the book? I know there are no Spearhead/Vanguard boxes for them yet but I'm still curious if there are any rules in the book to build a certain formation of units for the time being?

I truly understand that this is a great way to ease new players inzo the hobby. Also, Spearhead tournaments should be quite easy to host. Buuuut... the playing field & terrain look as boring as possible.

The way you describe GW's view of Spearhead means how good the game will actually be, it reminds me of how Corvus Belli views Code One. To them CO is only ever the stepping stone to N4. I feel GW feels the same way about Spearhead. They see it as only a stepping stone to full AoS. With that mindset, Spearhead will never grow and truly be its own thing. It's just the junior version of the game they actually want you to play.
